BSA Troop 161 is located in Niwot, Colorado and is chartered by the Niwot Hall and has operated for more than 60 years. Our ranks are filled by BSA Scouts from Niwot, Longmont, Lyons and Boulder. The Troop 161 History dates from 1960 when it was initially chartered to serve local youth. The troop has a long history of Eagle Scouts from a strong Eagle Scout Program.
Our Troop's mission is to guide scouts into educated decisions while engaging in fun outdoor activities with their Troop and Patrol. Troop 161 is a youth lead and parent advised troop. Boys and girls (ages 11-18) work on projects, activities, excursions and rank advancement requirements outlined in the BSA Scout Handbook. A scout may work toward his Eagle Rank until turning 18 years of age. Troop 161 welcomes youth and their families. Parents are asked to assist with aspects of the program, encourage their scout, and be involved with the troop as a whole. We find that parent involvement keeps the scouts on track, motivated, and engaged. All adult advisors are trained in BSA Youth Protection Training.
